Wearable tech is the latest trend in this generation. A wide range of smartwatches produced by Samsung, Apple, and other tech giants are selling like hotcakes. Smart glasses also went into the picture, like Google’s failed Google Glass project and Snap Corp’s Spectacles. But just recently, the young and innovative minds of the people behind the Mountain View tech giant Google has come up with another tech invention.

A patent was just lately filed by the tech giant for a baseball cap which has a camera embedded on it. According to the patent filed, the technology-augmented baseball cap can actually take still photos and can record video. The said camera is attached to its brim, according to the latest media reports.

Videos would be senseless without audio, so in order for it to record audio, there is another innovation embedded into the cap that can create audio waves by way of bone conduction through the skull of the user. This technology will work together with a built-in microphone.

The said hi-tech baseball cap can be Google’s another shot in their contribution to the wearable devices industry, as their first shot, the Google Glass, has went into its final doom. The said baseball cap can also pose a threat to other wearable devices, such as the Snap’s Spectacles.

According to the patent that was approved on February 28^th, the technology-driven baseball cap is being described as a “hat-and-camera system” the while can be used to further enhance the user’s social media experience and social sharing, it can also be a tool in providing its users personal safety.

Nicknamed “the Google Hat”, it could be used to share photos and videos that its user has captured using its embedded camera. To make this possible, the user should install a special app dedicated to gadget, and link it to the smartphone. However, it is still unclear with whatever type of communication will be used. Aside from that, the said gadget can be very useful when for emergency reasons, as its patent clearly states that it could offer protection against a threatening situation.

It was also stated in the patent that its users can enable an indicator that displays if there is an emergency situation. When the said indicator is enabled, the camera system will automatically acquire its geographic location and stream a video feed to a suitable emergency handling system to protect the user for a potential threat coming from a dangerous person nearby to him.

Aside from the said baseball cap, a patent for a camera bracelet was also granted for the tech giant. According to the approved patent, the bracelets sports a digital screen and two camera lenses. However, other details significant to the project were not included into its patent application.

It seems that the camera-hat design of Google’s new innovation is inspired to action cameras that can be mounted to helmets like the GoPro. Downside of these action cameras is they can only do live streaming directly to YouTube and there is a very few number of action cameras that can stream directly to social apps like Facebook. If deemed successful, Google can use the opportunity to have this kind of streaming capability to their baseball cap.
